May Newsletter

Well here it is May newsletter time, and getting a late start on it seeing as it is already a few days into June already. There seems to be so much more on my mind and things going on that my time management has gone a little wayward. May was a great month for me here to just chill and relax and really live here in the DR. I also got to work in some new communities and see some different aspects of SI, all which were great! We also went through some changes in the intern house. There are now ten of us living here, and so far having the time of our lives!

 

For the first half of May I spent my weeks in Los Higos. It is a community about twenty minutes away that SI has a preschool and social work site in. I worked with Heidy at the social work site as we prepared to move to a new building that we are renting. I loved getting to know the women and children that come and to this site and I got to use some of my Suzie homemaker skills! Heidy teaches cross stitch and sewing to the girls there and I was totally in my element. The picture above put me on Little House on the Prairie. I don’t think I have ever seen that in real life but it was so cool to see and it totally worked!

 Our off weekends were spent getting to know the local attractions here in Jarabacoa. It is so beautiful here and so much to see that I don’t think that I could see it all if I had the chance. I have just been soaking in the beauty of Gods creation here and He in turn has been showing more of Himself through it to me.

This month I also got to say hello to one of my best friends! Brittany came along with the other interns and I can’t say how great it has been to have her here as well as the others, even if it was a little hard for me to transition with them here in the beginning. But we all get along great and it is going tone be a fantastic summer!!!
