June Newsletter

This summer has flown by it seems, and I sometimes don’t know where the time goes. It has been a long but very fun month for us here in the DR. We have had three outreaches so far and are gearing up for our fourth. We have been on some great adventures and have made some lasting memories. When I said last month that we had a good group of interns here I really didn’t know a whole lot about them yet but they have really made this a summer to remember! I cant say enough about this group of people!

One thing that I have learned is how to make a proper gumbo! I owe this all to Meaghan and Chris, a couple who were here from Louisiana, and who we all tearfully said goodbye to this weekend. I don’t really think I knew just how hard it will be to say goodbye until I had to say goodbye to these two. We have all grown so close that it will be that much harder at the end of the summer for goodbyes. I have really been having to trust in the Lord more and more and not fear or worry about all that is coming in the next month. Staying focused and completely “here” is my goal for the next few weeks.

Genesis and all the students are doing well! I am having a blast just hanging out with them and loving them. It was a fun day when “B” spent the day with me, and got to see everything that I have been doing since I have been here. Everything from puzzles to strength training to painting faces. These kids have so much to share with us, love and joy and laughter. I don’t think I have ever laughed so much as I have with these kids. Seeing there smiling faces everyday really does make my day complete.

Thanks for all the continued prayers and support, and I will talk to you all soon!
